Hello! I’m Lizzie and I’m the human behind Living the Questions Now. A Yorkshire lass born and bred, I’m an endless questioner and adventurer! I’m not happy unless I’m creating: everything from delicious meals and treats, to poetry and stories, to patterns and quilts and teddy bears and paintings. I love travelling the world, learning about new cultures and experiencing things I wouldn’t otherwise experience.
You’re probably wondering where the name for this website came from. Well, I’m a girl who loves poetry, a proud book nerd! One of the most inspiring books I’ve read is a little-known book called ‘Letters to a Young Poet’ by Rainer Maria Rilke. Within its pages are so many pieces of eternal wisdom, and one of those goes like this…
Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.
So that’s where Living the Questions Now came from: because I am, at heart, a girl living in the questions, living everything, and being patient with all that’s unsolved in my heart. Aren’t we all?
Living the Questions Now came out of a desire to share my adventures with others and, in doing so, encourage them to have their own! In these (virtual!) pages, you’ll find stories from travels around the world with tips and tricks to inspire your own travels; delicious recipes without gluten and dairy to help you eat well and enjoy every bite; and personal stories of living and thriving with mental illness to remind you that anything is possible.
I hope you’ll like what you find at Living the Questions Now. I hope it inspires you to ask your questions and live your own adventures. And I hope it reminds you that you are not alone, and that despite the challenges life often throws at us, we can always make it an adventure!
This is Albus, the Dumbledog. He’s the doggo behind Living the Questions Now. He doesn’t do much of the writing, but he does help with recipe-tasting and plays a very important role in my journey through mental illness.
Albus became my magical doggo back in 2018 when he was a mere few months old. He was one of two left in a litter and when I visited, he chose me to be his new mama. We haven’t looked back since!
Albus is a cheeky little pupper with lots of energy and lots of attitude! His favourite things are, in no particular order: carrots, ice cubes, eating socks off the dryer, digging for treasure, running in circles, barking at ironing boards, peanut butter, cuddles, chewing walls, dancing, and coffee. Like his human mama, he gets bored easily and is always in need of cuddles and affection.
Albus isn’t a support dog, but his nature and endless love makes him my emotional support buddy and, in spite of his frequent naughtiness, I wouldn’t undertake this adventure of life without him by my side.
Oh, and yes, he’s named after Dumbledore. But he’s a true Hufflepuff – the sorting hat said so.
